The origins of Isuzu Motors Limited can be traced back to the 1916 merging of a Tokyo ship-building company and a gas and electric company. Their vision was simple: build quality vehicles.
Isuzu trucks were introduced to Australia by General Motors Holden in 1972 and were marketed as ‘Bedford by Isuzu’.
I-GM is formed
Isuzu General Motors Limited (I-GM) was formed in 1989—a joint venture between Isuzu Motors Limited and General Motors. The year also marked Isuzu’s first year at the top of Australia’s truck sales chart, commencing more than 30 years of market leadership.
IAL is born
In 2005, General Motors’ 40% stake was bought out and Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL)—a wholly Australian-owned subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Limited—was born.
