Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about your truck? Find answers to the most common questions from our customers.

What are GVM and GCM?

Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) is the maximum weight a vehicle can carry, including the body, payload, fuel and occupants. It is sometimes referred to as Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). Our trucks meet a range of GVM specifications:

  • N Series GVM: 4,500 kg to 8,700 kg
  • F Series GVM: 10,400 kg to 26,000 kg
  • FX Series GVM: 16,500 kg to 24,000 kg
  • FY Series GVM: 30,000 kg to 35,000 kg
  • GIGA GVM: 24,000 kg to 26,000 kg

Gross Combination Mass (GCM) is the maximum weight a truck can carry and tow, encompassing the GVM and additional items such as trailers. It is also referred to as Gross Combination Weight (GCW). Our trucks meet a range of GCM specifications:

  • N Series GCM: 7,000 kg to 12,200 kg
  • F Series GCM: 15,000 kg to 36,000 kg
  • FX Series GCM: 36,000 kg to 42,500 kg
  • FY Series GCM: 42,500 kg
  • GIGA GCM: 50,000 kg to 70,000 kg

Can any truck be driven on a car licence?

For a truck to be legally driven on a car licence, the GVM can’t exceed 4,500 kg. This is why our 'car licence models' aren’t rated above this weight.

Can I order a truck to meet my GVM and GCM needs?

We have over 100 models available through our Dealer Network, many of which provide the option for the GVM and GCM to be re-rated to meet your specific requirements.

Can my vehicle be re-rated?

If you buy a vehicle from our Dealer Network, it may be re-rated based on your requirements through the manufacturer before registration.

If you buy a second-hand and want it re-rated, an independent engineer (such as a body builder) can help with this process. The engineer will usually ask for a letter from the manufacturer to confirm the vehicle can be re-rated.

Visit our Spec Sheets page to find all applicable information.

What is my truck’s paint colour code?

Glacier White is the colour used on older generation models sold prior to 1993. Arctic White is the current standard colour, and 12 additional colours were introduced to the 2011 truck range.

How do I learn more about the engine oil and coolant needed for my truck?

Please refer to the Recommended Fluids, Lubricants and Diesel Fuels section in Chapter 7 – Service & Maintenance of your Owner’s Manual.

How do I request a new Owner’s Manual?

You can buy additional copies of your Owner’s Manuals and Owner’s Supplement Manuals through our Dealer Network. Visit the Find a Dealer page for your nearest location.

What determines the my vehicle’s fuel consumption?

A number of factors affect fuel consumption, such as body type, load type, load weight, load weight distribution, additional equipment, driver habits, weather and road conditions. This means no two vehicles are identical or operated in the same manner. As a result, we don’t provide official fuel consumption figures for our trucks.
